The Bas-Rhin gendarmerie announced on Tuesday morning that it had arrested the suspect of the feminicide of Wissembourg.

The man, aged about fifty, has been the center of attention since the discovery on Saturday of the body of his ex-girlfriend.

She was found dead at her home, shot dead according to the first elements of the investigation.

The suspect, found thanks to his vehicle, was arrested Monday in the early evening in the south of France.

He has been taken into police custody and should now be transferred to the Bas-Rhin for questioning.

This man and the victim had a relationship for a few months.

She had ended it over the summer and had since met another man.

This case brings to at least 51 the number of suspected femicides since the beginning of the year.

In 2019, 146 women were killed by their spouse or ex-partner, 25 more than the previous year, according to the latest official figures.
