The four-meter-high hole, which has not previously been observed by divers, has led several voices in both Sweden and Estonia to speculate on what actually happened when M / S Estonia sank in 1994.

One of the theories, which is shared by, among others, Estonia's former Minister of Defense, is that Estonia did not sink because the bow visor came loose, but because the ship collided with a submarine.

Margus Kurm, former chairman of the Estonian government's inquiry into the disaster, goes one step further.

According to him, it must have been a Swedish submarine.

Talked to Löfven

On Tuesday last week, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and Jüri Ratas, Estonia's Prime Minister, who had previously demanded a new technical investigation of the wreck, spoke about Estonia.

On Monday evening, another meeting was held due to the new information.

According to Gösta Brunnander, Stefan Löfven's press secretary, the conversation between the prime ministers was a "good meeting".

- The Prime Minister and spoke at last night and talked about the way forward.

There was a consensus that the expert authorities should now be allowed to look at this information, he tells SVT Nyheter.

- The question has been raised too early about what we should do.

Now the authorities must be given a chance to analyze the material.

He does not want to go further into how the government views the claim that Estonia would have collided with a Swedish submarine.

- There is no reason to comment on one or the other at present.
