The march of giving the late Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, began in 1954, when he was appointed as a member of the Supreme Executive Committee, which was entrusted, at that time, with the task of organizing the interests of the government and its official departments.

- After the independence of the State of Kuwait in 1961, he was appointed as a member of the Constituent Assembly, which was entrusted with the task of forming the committee to draft the country's constitution, then he was appointed in the first ministerial formation in 1962 as Minister of Guidance and News.

- On January 28, 1963, after the first legislative elections were held to select the members of Parliament, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, to begin his career with foreign political and diplomatic work, and he spent 40 years at the head of that ministry.

- On July 13, 2003, an Amiri decree was issued appointing him as Prime Minister, the first time in the history of Kuwait that the positions of the mandate of the Covenant and the presidency of the Council of Ministers were separated.

He took over the helm of government on January 29, 2006 as the 15th ruler of the State of Kuwait, and enjoyed great popular and official support, and was unanimously pledged allegiance to members of the executive and legislative branches, becoming the first Emir since 1965 to take the constitutional oath before the National Assembly.
