"Deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation express serious concern over the sharp aggravation of the situation in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which led to numerous casualties, and strongly condemn the use of force by the parties," the press service of the chamber quoted the text of the statement.

In addition, the parliamentarians call on the parties to the conflict to "immediately cease fire" and prevent an escalation in the region, noting that there is no alternative to a peaceful settlement of the situation.

"The State Duma deputies call on the parties to return to the negotiation process as soon as possible and are ready to provide mediation assistance in stabilizing the situation," the document emphasizes.

As noted, the statement will be sent to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the government, as well as the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the CSTO PA, the CIS IPA, PACE and the OSCE PA.

Earlier, the Kremlin also called for an immediate end to hostilities in the region.
