Reduction fishing is a method used to improve water quality in nutrient-rich lakes.
In other words, it means fishing intensively for a short period.
The reduction fishing in Vimmersjön in Nödinge began on Monday and according to Maria Magnusson, municipal ecologist in Ale municipality, the hope is to pull up three tonnes of fish.
- There is, among other things, a lot of bream, small perch and less roach in Vimmersjön.
To get rid of the algae bloom, we have to get rid of some of that fish, she says.
The large amount of fish that will be pulled out of the lake during the day will be turned into biogas, but there is also the opportunity for the public to come to the lake to take the fish home.
- It is food for the cat, for example, says Maria Magnusson.
