In July 2020, the city council of the American city of Sitka in Alaska approved a resolution to transfer from the central park to the museum a statue of Alexander Baranov, who was the ruler of Russian settlements in North America in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

The Coordinating Council of Organizations of Russian Compatriots in the United States (KSORS) drew up a petition against the demolition of the monument.
