The nation will carry out a 40-day mourning, and all governments and public departments will stop working for 3 days.

  He said that according to the constitution, Crown Prince Nawaf became the new emir and the sixteenth emir of Kuwait.

  On July 18, Sabah was hospitalized due to illness and underwent surgery.

On the 23rd of the same month, Sabah went to the United States for treatment.

The Emir Palace of Kuwait issued a statement before Sabah’s visit to the United States, saying that after Sabah was admitted to the hospital, Crown Prince Nawaf temporarily assumed the power of some heads of state.

  Nawaf was born in June 1937. He is the half-brother of Sabah. He has held important positions in the national defense and internal affairs departments for many years and has rich political experience.
