Household morale remained stable in France in September compared to August, and their confidence in their future financial situation is improving, according to the monthly INSEE survey published on Tuesday.

The synthetic indicator measuring household morale remains, at 95, below the average which is 100.

But fears about the evolution of unemployment are once again increasing by one point after falling in July and August and reaching a very high level (70 against a long-term average of 33).

However, the French are more optimistic about the outlook for their personal financial situation, which for the first time since February goes above their long-term average, indicates the National Institute of Statistics in its press release.

At the same time, the number of people who consider it appropriate to save has risen sharply by nine points, endangering the ability to mobilize the 85 billion euros accumulated by the French since the start of the health crisis to revive the economy.

As a corollary of this propensity to save, the number of people considering it appropriate to "make major purchases" remains below its long-term average, even though it has recovered by one point compared to August.

Finally, the opinion of the French in relation to the future evolution of the standard of living "increases by five points but still remains well below its long-term average", further indicates INSEE in its press release.
