A little over a month before the US presidential election, it is a revelation on Sunday from the
New York Times
that falls worst for the tenant of the White House.
According to the newspaper, Donald Trump paid only $ 750 in federal taxes in 2016, the year he was elected, and as much in 2017. In total, he has paid no taxes in 10 of the previous 15 years.
The reaction of the American president was not long in coming.
Donald Trump purely and simply swept aside these revelations: “bogus, totally invented information,” he said at a press conference at the White House.
"I paid a lot, and I paid a lot of income taxes at the state level too, the State of New York taxes a lot," he retorted.

But, according to the New York daily, Donald Trump escaped tax "largely because he declared more losses of money than gains".
Within the nebula of companies run by the business mogul, many have reported significant losses, including his golf clubs, tarnishing the president's image of the successful entrepreneur.
The tax returns of the former real estate magnate are at the heart of a legal battle, Donald Trump having always refused to publish them contrary to the practice since the 1970s. His lack of transparency fuels speculation on the extent of its wealth or on potential conflicts of interest.
