They were unable to reach Besançon-La Vèze aerodrome.
A tourist plane, a Cirrus 22, capable of carrying a total of four passengers, crashed around 10:15 a.m. on Monday about ten kilometers from its point of destination.
Its three passengers are dead.
The single-engine aircraft had taken off from Caen (Calvados) but ended its flight in the woods in the town of La Chevillotte (Doubs), therefore a few moments before landing.
Plane in flame when help arrives
When help arrived, the airplane was in flames.
For the time being, the gendarmes are on site and the investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy has been entrusted to the Dijon air section and the Basel-Mulhouse air transport gendarmerie brigade.
The identity of the victims was not immediately specified.
