At the beginning of the summer, the number of new confirmed cases soared, something that was mainly explained by the fact that they then began to test significantly more than before.

At the same time, patients who needed care for covid-19 did not increase at all to the same extent.

After a peak week 25, the midsummer week, the number of new cases began to decrease, until August.

Now they are increasing again and this can not only be explained by increased testing according to the Stockholm Region, the proportion of positives of those tested has also increased.

On September 25, a total of 24,594 people were confirmed infected with covid-19 in Stockholm County.

Seeing how many people need hospital care and, above all, intensive care has always been an important way of measuring the development of the epidemic.

Here, too, it has been steadily declining throughout the summer, but last week it went from two to six patients.

Other hospital care

In addition to intensive care, covid patients are also cared for in other hospital wards.

It has also settled there after falling to a slightly higher level, but is fairly stable in September.

On September 25, 24 people were treated for covid-19 in hospitals in the county in addition to those in the intensive care unit.

About the statistics

The tables start on 25 June, for diagrams of what the development looked like before that in the Stockholm Region, see this article.

The fact that new cases suddenly decrease by almost 2,000 cases in August is due to the Swedish Public Health Agency removing the cases from the statistics, due to incorrect positive answers.
