September 28, 2020 Faced with the increase in cases in the Netherlands, Prime Minister Mark Rutte has announced a series of measures, including one that requires employers to organize smart working whenever possible.

Employers will therefore be considered responsible for any clusters among their workers if they have not taken adequate measures to prevent and discover infections.

In this case, sanctions may also be triggered, with closure of two weeks.

In addition, restaurants and bars will have to prevent the entry of new customers after 9pm and close at 10pm. And indoor activities will only be allowed for 30 people, excluding staff.

Even outside, no gatherings of over 40 people will be allowed, sporting events of all levels will be behind closed doors.

The number of guests is also limited, up to three guests, not counting children under 12, for meetings at home.

In supermarkets, two hours should be reserved for elderly customers or customers with health problems, while everyone must keep a minimum distance of one and a half meters.

Hairdressers, beauticians and beauty salons will have to keep records of all customer visits, as will hotels, museums and libraries.

The measures will take effect tomorrow at 6pm, Rutte explained in a press conference with Health Minister Hugo de Jonge.

"We hope these measures will have results in 10 days, two weeks and if the situation does not change in three weeks, we should be realistic and think about stricter measures," Rutte said.

In 4 weeks, the Netherlands has quintupled the number of hospitalizations and in the last week has exceeded the previous record of infections, with 3 thousand new positives on Sunday and the government expects that the numbers will rise to 5 thousand in the next few days.
