The lawyers of the former Mauritanian president are astonished at the decision taken by the public prosecutor of Nouakchott-Ouest prohibiting their client from leaving his region of residence during the preliminary investigation by the police for the repression of economic crimes.

Until now, the former head of state had the possibility of going to his village, Bin Chaab, 160 km north of the capital.

"

We are really surprised by this decision which deprives the former President of the Republic of his right to move, of the freedom of movement, of his freedom of movement,"

Takioullah Eidda, one of

Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz's

lawyers

, is

surprised

.

And sometimes also, it violates a little its right to the presumption of innocence.

 "

The former president is regularly summoned by investigators and this Sunday, once again, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz was walled in silence.

A strategy in accordance with the fundamental law, according to Master Takioullah Eidda: “

He enjoys presidential immunity by virtue of the Constitution.

And therefore, he does not have to answer the investigators' questions.

It is only before the High Court that he must answer them,

”says the lawyer.

The preliminary investigation was launched by the Parliament following a report pinning the management of the former president, in particular concerning the file relating to the transfer of a parcel of the port of Nouakchott for the construction of a container terminal .
