Ion Aliman, who died on September 17 at the age of 57, won 1,057 votes out of some 1,600 votes cast in Deveselu, local media reported on Monday.
After the polls closed, the villagers came to his grave to celebrate his victory.
"We went to congratulate him," a Deveselu resident wrote on Facebook, under a photo showing dozens of people waving candles in the local cemetery.
The town had already hit the headlines
Before the voters, the sheep of Deveselu had already hit the headlines when they found themselves at the center of an unlikely war between a villager and the command of the American anti-missile shield, inaugurated in 2016. The 250 sheep of Dumitru Bleja had become a threat despite themselves. for the security of the military site: grazing near the fence, they regularly triggered the warning systems.
Ordered to demolish his sheep shelter and graze his animals elsewhere, the villager requested damages of 18,000 euros, but was ultimately dismissed by the courts in 2018.
