Threatening to commit suicide, Brad Parscale, the former campaign manager of Donald Trump, was hospitalized on Sunday, US media reported, specifying that the alert had been launched by his wife.

Known for his outspokenness, Brad Parscale was replaced in July, four months before the presidential election, when Donald Trump was down in the polls.

The police intervened at his home, after being warned that a "gunman was trying to kill himself," Fort Lauderdale, Florida policewoman DeAnna Greenlaw told CNN.

The man owned several guns

The man was later identified as Brad Parscale by police, who said it was his wife who made the call.

The latter said that her husband was "armed, that he had access to several firearms in their residence, and that he threatened to harm himself," added DeAnna Greenlaw.

The former campaign manager quickly surrendered to police officers in Florida, where a law allows for the temporary detention of people with mental illness.

Brad Parscale was dismissed from his post after a campaign rally by Donald Trump in Tulsa, Oklahoma that was widely criticized, both for the low turnout and for the president's rambling speech.

"They should be ashamed of what they did to this man"

However, he remained an important member of the campaign team.

“Brad Parscale is a member of our family and we all love him.

We are ready to support him and his family in any way we can, ”Trump's campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh told the South Florida Sun Sentinel newspaper.

"The disgusting personal attacks by the Democrats and disgruntled 'RINOs' ('Republicans in name only) have gone a long way, and they should be ashamed of what they have done to this man and his family,' he said. added.
