Former Sarkozy Minister Rachida Dati laid the groundwork for the 2022 presidential election by telling the British daily The Times, which appeared on Monday, his determination to "win" this election.

Asked, as part of this portrait, about his projects for the next two years, the former LR candidate for mayor of Paris replied: "to win the presidential election of 2022", according to his words published in English by the newspaper.

"When you do politics and win electoral battles and make sure that your cause advances, that you defend your values and a community of destinies, necessarily there comes a time when you say to yourself, especially when you see the state of the country, this battle, maybe I could lead it, ”added the former Minister of Justice.

Already in July, Rachida Dati had estimated that he had "a role to play" for the presidential election.

"It will be up to my political family to choose a candidate for 2022" but "I will participate in this major commitment", she then said to the Parisian, saying she was convinced "that there is no man or providential woman ".

At the beginning of September, however, she assured that former minister Xavier Bertrand, who has been actively positioning himself for 2022 since the summer, was "the most hungry" on the right.

"I want it, but I want it to be the best" and "I don't know if I can be the best", then added Ms. Dati on BFMTV, placing herself "in a collective dynamic".

The Republicans, anticipating a possible defection of François Baroin for the presidential election, returned the choice of their candidate to April 2021.

The former Minister of Justice returned to the limelight after a combative campaign for the mayor of Paris which placed her in second position (34% of the vote in the second round) behind Anne Hidalgo (49%), even though few bet on his chances at the start.

In addition, as part of the investigation into Carlos Ghosn, a judicial investigation was opened by the courts on facts of "abuse of corporate assets" and "passive corruption" around consulting contracts entered into by the Renault alliance. -Nissan with Rachida Dati and criminologist Alain Bauer - whom the former MEP has regularly denounced as a "maneuver" and "instrumentalisation".
