It was in August 2019 that a 70-year-old man from Markaryd was found dead in the forest a couple of kilometers outside the town.

The man had been reported missing almost two weeks earlier when he disappeared in his car.

In July 2020, two men were sentenced to life in prison for the murder and for stealing the 70-year-old's car.

The verdict is being appealed to the Court of Appeal, both by the two convicted men and by the plaintiff.

Prosecutor's request

As part of the ongoing Court of Appeal hearing, the prosecutor has requested an inspection of the crime scenes in Markaryd.

The prosecutor, the two men's defense lawyers and one of the men convicted of murder therefore visited the town on Monday.

- I think it is important that we are in place, says prosecutor Gunilla Öhlin.

Otherwise, she does not want to comment on the purpose of the visit to Markaryd, or what significance the view has for the ongoing hearing in the Göta Court of Appeal.

Visited three places

The group visited the car park in central Markaryd where the 70-year-old parked his car in connection with the last time he was seen alive, the petrol station just outside Markaryd where the car was seen shortly afterwards, and the place in the forest where the 70-year-old was found dead almost two weeks later. .

- The prosecutor has requested this and I am on site, but I know nothing more than that, says lawyer Tommy Nilsson who defends one of the convicted men.

Monday was the third of a total of five scheduled trial days.

The last day of the trial is scheduled for October 16.
