27 September 2020 "They muddy me to hit the government": this is how the President of INPS, Pasquale Tridico, in an interview with "La Stampa".

"I am upset, they are muddying me - he continues - so far they have struck me for my professional activity, but now they are attacking me also on a personal level and this hurts and pains me".

They do so, according to him, because "INPS has always been a very politicized institution and I see that its activity tends to overlap that of the executive": therefore "they attack me to attack the government, that's exactly what I think. In the state, second-tier executives take € 150,000, those in the first bracket 200,000. The INPS President, until now, 60,000 euros, but what are we talking about? Because if the President of Istat takes 240 thousand euros shock anyone? "

adds referring to Gian Carlo Blangiardo (from the Northern League area, notes the newspaper).

"When they tell you that you take the money and it's not true what you should do? The only thing - continues Tridico - would be to sue, but it's not my style, I'm not used to working like this".

To those who invited him to resign, he replied: "I don't think about it, all the accusations being false, why should I?".

"I didn't decide on a salary increase, I won't take arrears"

The president of INPS, Pasquale Tridico, defended himself from criticism for the doubling of salary also through a letter sent to 'La Repubblica', the newspaper that had raised the case , referring to the "inter-ministerial decree that establishes the remuneration of the Board of Inps (and Inail)", underlining that Tridico would be granted a backlog of 100 thousand euros.

"This is the first false - he explains - The reality instead is that the new amount of compensation provided for the president of the Institute will start not from May 2019, but from April 15, 2020, that is to say since the board of directors took office and I have assumed the office of president. The second false is that it is not in the powers of the president or any other body of the Institute to determine the remuneration ".

"I was appointed INPS president by decree of the Head of State on 22 May 2019", recalled Tridico, "subsequently, in June 2019, with a note from the Cabinet of the Ministry of Labor, the remuneration of the board that was being formed was proposed: 150 thousand gross euros for the president, 100 thousand for the deputy and 23 thousand for the 3 members of the board. Meanwhile, the government crisis of August 2019 delayed the appointment of the board of directors. Thus, only from 15 April 2020 I assumed the functions of president of the board of directors ".

"In view of the reconstitution of the board of directors of the two bodies - continues Tridico - the law of 28 January 2019, had provided that, with a specific inter-ministerial decree, the amount of the remuneration of the aforementioned bodies would be fixed, without new or greater charges for public finance . So much so that said fees are financed through the reduction of Inps and Inail operating expenses. On July 15, 2019 the Department for the administrative coordination of the Prime Minister started the procedure for determining the remuneration of the Chairman and of the other members of the board of directors of the two bodies, on the basis of a directive of the President of the Council of Ministers of 9 January 2001 which establishes the criteria and indicators to be adopted for this purpose; a directive that since 2001 dictates the rules for setting the bodies of all public administrations, suggesting the use of a specific software to determine the compensation for the board of directors on the basis

and the budget of the Institute and the number of employees ".

"This software returned a much higher remuneration for the INPS president and for the board of directors: for the president of 240 thousand euros, equal to the remuneration of the central managers of INPS, and the heads of similar administrations", explained Tridico, " , the interministerial decree of 7 August 2020 of the Minister of Labor and the Minister of Economy, a decree necessary and consequent to the establishment of the board of directors, establishes 150 thousand euros for the president, 40 thousand euros (which can be raised to 60 thousand according to the powers exercised) for the vice president and 23 thousand euros for each member of the board of directors. In short, the vigilant ministries intervened to reduce the measure resulting from the application of those rules ".
