"
Under the historic patronage of Alberto Fujimori and thanks to my 100% active return to Fuerza popular, we can overcome, more united than ever, the great difficulties facing Fujimorism
", she announces.
Charges of corruption hang over her
This announcement falls six months before the next presidential election.
So far, Keiko Fujimori has not applied.
In her announcement, she was careful not to comment on
accusations of corruption
against her, accusations that she continues to reject.
Justice suspects her of having received funds from the Brazilian construction group
Odebrecht
to finance her 2011 election campaign. The leader of the Fuerza Popular spent more than a year in detention.
She was released from prison last May and is currently under house arrest.
According to an official of the right-wing populist party, the daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori is the natural candidate of Fuerza Popular.
During the last legislative elections last January, the main opposition force suffered a major setback, it lost nearly three quarters of its seats in Parliament.
