During August and September, the Islamic Cultural Association in Ronneby held its Friday prayers in Brunnsparken, in order to keep their distance during the corona pandemic.

The permit, which was given by the police and officials at the municipality, has been criticized by, among others, the chairman of the municipal board Roger Fredriksson (M).

The prayer times have also sparked debate on social media and in the local press.

Written on contract

But as of Friday, August 25, the Friday prayers have moved into a new location in Ronneby's old sugar factory, something that Sydöstran was the first to tell about.

- The premises are centrally located and are so large that we can follow the Public Health Agency's guidelines.

We are very satisfied.

So now we have signed a lease, says Gudlaug Hilmarsdottir, spokesperson for the Islamic Cultural Association.

She describes it as a good step in the collaboration with the municipality.

- We started the discussions about a room with Roger Fredriksson a while ago.

The first proposal we received, Brunnskvittret, did not work.

This was the second suggestion we got, and it was much better.

It is a good decision for everyone in society, says Gudlaug Hilmarsdottir.

SVT Nyheter Blekinge has contacted Roger Fredriksson for a comment.
