A total of 117 martyrs' remains and 1,368 related relics were handed over this time. This is the largest number of corpses handed over to China in recent years, except for the first transfer of more than 400 remains of volunteers from South Korea to China in 2014.

Most of the remains were excavated by the South Korean army in 2019 in the Demilitarized Zone between South Korea and North Korea.

On the same day, representatives of China and South Korea signed the handover letter on the spot. Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Xing Haiming covered the coffins of the volunteers with national flags, and the Chinese side held a memorial ceremony.

From 2014 to 2019, South Korea has transferred the remains of 599 Chinese People's Volunteers to China for six consecutive years.

This year, due to the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the handover ceremony of the remains was postponed to September.
