This week, SVT Västerbotten reported on maternity care, which despite investments from the government has meant that midwives choose to leave their workplace.

Anna-Lena Danielsson (S), chair of the health and medical care committee in the Västerbotten Region, says that she is aware of the problem with the midwives' work and staffing situation.

Should look at the work environment

The criticism from the unions concerns both staffing, stress in the workplace and the wage situation, what can you do about it?

- As a politician, I will not get involved in the wage negotiations between the parties.

But what I see, as we should do at once, is look at the work environment, to see what can be done.

Of course, also review how we can recruit more midwives.

- The majority must take responsibility for this, it is not the case that the opposition has not debated this issue in the committee and council, says Marianne Normark (L), member of the health and medical care committee.

She continues:

- We have been critical for a long time, it is not the first summer, I have raised this issue several times.

I do not want to say that it is an easy task to find midwives, but it is as if it is a surprise every year that: "Oh, midwives are missing", says Marianne Normark.

"Our most important resource"

Does it sound to you that you from the Liberals are still investing more in health care and midwives?

- I say that all the time, save on other things and invest in healthcare, without staff, no care.

It is our most important resource.
