Representatives of the sections and departmental councils of the PCF in Hauts-de-France on Saturday approved the strategy of large-scale rallying of left-wing and environmental forces for the regional elections, while the negotiations are expected to be complex.

"To win, we will have to bring together widely, very widely, well beyond our own ranks, to convince people who no longer want to go and vote, who are disgusted with politics," said from the rostrum of this regional conference of the PCF in Avion (Pas-de-Calais) the national secretary of the party and deputy of the North Fabien Roussel, saying he is ready to produce "all the openings necessary" to achieve union and win the left, absent from the regional hemicycle since 2015.

A leader and a leader, no head of the list

The members of the PCF of Hauts-de-France adopted by show of hands, unanimously minus two abstentions, the principle of a "list of large gathering of forces and citizens of the left and environmentalists" and also approved the fact. that Fabien Roussel and the Communist senator Cathy Apourceau are “the regional leaders of the PCF in this election”.

However, leaders will not necessarily mean leaders.

"It is a first that we have appointed two leaders, to send a signal to other left-wing political forces and environmentalists that we want to be very open in the construction of this gathering, on the head of the lists as well as on the content", Fabien Roussel explained at a press conference.

LFI does not want the PS

At the beginning of September, officials of the PS, EELV and the PCF had called via a forum in the newspaper

Liberation

for a rally of the left in Hauts-de-France in regional elections.

In addition to Fabien Roussel, this forum was signed in particular by the boss of the socialist senators Patrick Kanner and the MEP EELV Karima Delli.

In 2015, Xavier Bertrand won in the second round against Marine Le Pen.

Due to the division of the left, the PS only ranked third and withdrew to block the far right.

Friday, LFI deputy Ugo Bernalicis announced that he was a candidate for the head of a regional list and reached out to EELV and the PCF, but not to the PS.

"We need a break with the policy of Emmanuel Macron as well as with the previous five-year term", that of François Hollande, he explained.

"With us, no one participated in the government of François Hollande," Fabien Roussel noted on Saturday.

“If there was no rally, neither of us could be in the second round,” warned Cathy Apourceau.
