The Health Organization: Coronavirus cases in Europe are going in the wrong direction

A senior official of the World Health Organization said today, Friday, that the rates of infection with the Corona virus and the number of hospitalized people in Europe are increasing, adding that the authorities should stop the spread of the virus before the coming of the flu season.

"Europe has a lot of work to do to stabilize the situation and bring the spread under control," Mike Ryan, director of the organization's emergency program, said during a press conference.

"Overall, we see a worrying increase (in rates) of disease within this very large area," he added.

"We are at the end of September and we haven't even started the flu season, so what worries us is the possibility of these paths going in the wrong direction," WHO's technical officer on Covid-19 Maria Van Kerkhove said.

She explained that entering hospitals early and using the steroid dexamethasone saves lives, adding, "We want to avoid any public closures as it was in the beginning."
