Kinnard said, “I only wet the sieve for 10 minutes that day, and then I started walking around on the plowed ground. I picked up anything that looked like crystal and stuffed it into a bag.”

According to reports, when he was active in the south of the diamond search area, Kinnard found a marble-sized crystal, "It looks very interesting and shiny. I thought it might be a piece of glass, so I put it in the bag."

A few hours later, Kinnard and his friend walked into the Diamond Discovery Center in the State Park. After seeing a friend asked the staff for identification, he also took out his "trophies", and then was told by the staff that he really found it. A diamond, "I was totally shocked."

Edmonds, Assistant Director of Diamond Pit State Park Management Office, said that Kinnard found the diamonds at the right time and place. "The staff only plowed through the search area on August 20. Tropical hurricane Laura was a few days later. It brought accumulated rainfall of more than 5 cm. When Mr. Kinnard visited, the sun had already risen, and he was walking just in time to notice the diamond reflecting the sun."
