If Halep should start the fortnight gently against the Spanish Sara Sorribes Tormo (70th), the task is more complicated for Garcia, opposite entry to the Estonian Anett Kontaveit (21st), who has just beaten her in Rome (6 -3, 7-6 (7/1)).
The shock of the first round between two triple Grand Slam winners, Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka, concludes this inaugural Sunday on the Philippe-Chatrier court.
On the Suzanne-Lenglen, the Belarussian revenge and recent US Open finalist Victoria Azarenka faces Montenegrin Danka Kovinic at 11:00 am.
