September 26, 2020 The motorist who yesterday afternoon overwhelmed five tourists in the central square of Monforte d'Alba (Cuneo) killing a 67-year-old woman from Turin, Fiorangela Ghiglio, was arrested by the carabinieri, is under house arrest.

Her seventy-year-old husband is hospitalized in Verduno.

Three other tourists were also injured: a German couple and a Belgian citizen;

they would not be in danger of life.



The driver of the SUV is under investigation for road murder and serious injuries.

Monday is scheduled for the hearing to validate the arrest in court in Asti.

Before stopping him and subjecting him to the necessary investigations, the driver was saved by the carabinieri from the lynching of some people present on the spot.



According to an initial reconstruction, driving a large Mercedes SUV, he arrived at high speed in Piazza Umberto I, in the center of Monforte;

an area full of clubs and bars in the tourist town of Langa, where there is a speed limit of 30 km / h.

The vehicle skidded several times, damaging the dehors of the Enoteca Caffè Rocca, protected by a wall, and ending its run after having overwhelmed the tourists.

Shortly before arriving on the square, the man also insulted a trader who had invited him to slow down.
