Astonishing Bundesliga.

Dortmund beaten, Leipzig held in check on Saturday, and here is Augsburg, 15th in the standings last season, temporarily alone in the lead with six points in two days, while waiting for Bayern Munich who can take over Sunday.

The first big surprise of the season came from Bavaria, but for once not from Munich: Augsburg beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0, runners-up unable to find the rhythm to convert their intrinsic superiority into goals.

Meanwhile, Leipzig and Mönchengladbach drew 1-1 respectively at Leverkusen and at home against Union Berlin.

These missteps by his main rivals are therefore already opening up an avenue for the defending champion Munich (3 pts), who is playing in Hoffenheim on Sunday.

Thursday's UEFA Super Cup winner, "Rekordmeister" can mark their territory by taking a few steps ahead of the other favorites, a week after impressing Germany by sweeping Schalke 8-0 in the opener of the Bundesliga.

Dortmund, who started the championship well by punishing Mönchengladbach 3-0 last Saturday, is already suffering a painful setback, which will not help to give him confidence in his fight to try to avoid a ninth consecutive Bayern title.

"We had no less good chances than Augsburg, but we did not convert them," Borussia center-back Mats Hummels simply observed after the game.

In fact, Borussia had plenty of means to win, but the clinical effectiveness of the Bavarians made the difference.

Augsburg opened the scoring with his very first dangerous move in the 40th minute, when Felix Uduokhai victoriously headed a free kick.

After the break, Daniel Caligiuri launched in depth resisted the return of the former Parisian Thomas Meunier to come and beat Roman Bürki closely (2-0, 54th).

In this Saturday's poster, Leverkusen the fifth of last season received Leipzig, third last year and a semi-finalist in August of the Champions League.

Leipzig got into the game well and opened the scoring in the 14th minute by Swedish international Emil Forsberg, with a superb shot after a small hook in the area to erase a defender (1-0).

But Kerem Demirbay answered him for Bayer (2-0, 20th) six minutes later, and the score then did not change.

Patrik Schick, transferred from Leipzig to Leverkusen this summer, scored a sumptuous goal from afar in the second half, however canceled for an offside position.

The other big team from last season, Borussia Mönchengladbach, started very hard and only scored one point in two days, after conceding a 1-1 at home this Saturday against Union Berlin.

French striker Marcus Thuram, who started for the first time this season, opened the scoring with a powerful header from a corner (1-0, 56th), but the Union came back in the 80th minute by Nico Schlotterbeck (1-1).

The matches of this second day were played in front of a few thousand spectators, between 3,400 in Mainz and 10,000 in Mönchengladbach, figures determined locally by the health authorities, depending on the capacity of the stadiums and the incidence of the coronavirus in the region. .
