President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he was appointing Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court in order to further anchor the institution that settles the great debates of American society in conservatism.

" Mr. Trump said from the gardens of the White House.

Tonight, I have the honor to appoint one of the country's brightest and most gifted jurists to the Supreme Court,
” he said, stressing his “
unwavering loyalty
” to the Constitution.

" he said, addressing the judge, standing at her side.
The 45th President of the United States predicted a "swift" confirmation by the Senate, where Republicans hold a majority.

I love the United States and I love the Constitution of the United States,
" Amy Coney Barrett said in a brief address in which she paid deep tribute to
Ruth Bader Ginsburg
, the late progressive judge. last week and which she is called upon to replace.

She has won the admiration of women across the country and around the world,
” she said.
The presidential choice should be quickly validated by the Senate.
The hearings are due to begin on October 12, for a vote expected in late October, a few days before the November 3 election, according to US media.
