President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he was appointing Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court in order to further anchor the institution that settles the great debates of American society in conservatism.

The 45th President of the United States predicted a "swift" confirmation by the Senate, where Republicans hold a majority.

The presidential choice should be quickly validated by the Senate.

The hearings are due to begin on October 12, for a vote expected in late October, a few days before the November 3 election, according to US media.
