Claude Chirac, the daughter of the former President of the Republic Jacques Chirac, on Saturday put forward the hypothesis of a political commitment in Corrèze, the stronghold of his family, and considered inconceivable the absence of a candidate "of the Republican right "in the 2022 presidential election.

"I would be very happy to get involved in Corrèze, in what form honestly, I do not know yet", declared the president of the Fondation Chirac, aged 57, on BFMTV.

Asked about the hypothesis of a candidacy for the next departmental elections, Ms. Chirac said "think": "I can not say yes or no, I think".

"You can have a thousand forms of engagement. It's not just political engagement, it's major, but it's not just political engagement. (...) If I can be of help, I 'will go to 1.000%. In Corrèze, because it obviously seems the land that makes the most sense to me, but I don't know yet ", underlined the one who also affirmed to want" to remain at its right level ".

Jacques Chirac was for several decades the political face of this rural department, located on the fringes of the Massif Central.

Among other mandates, he was president of the general council from 1970 to 1979 and served as deputy for the former third constituency of Corrèze for 16 years, over four decades.

Claude Chirac's mother, Bernadette, is not to be outdone since she held a position of general counsel for the department for 36 years.

Claude Chirac also commented on the news of the right, ardently supporting a candidacy of his father's ex-political camp for the 2022 presidential election.

"I hope so," replied Claude Chirac to a question about the advisability of a candidacy of "the republican right" in the next election.

"Otherwise it is the collapse of the French democratic system", she added while the mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi called on his camp, the right, to make "an agreement with Emmanuel Macron" with a view to the presidential election of 2022, a proposal undermined by his political family.

"There is no successor to Jacques Chirac, no heir," she also commented as the political world commemorated this week the first anniversary of the death of the former head of the State (1995-2007).

"A year ago, President Chirac left us. We will never forget his fights and what he did for France," Emmanuel Macron tweeted on Saturday, one year to the day after his disappearance.
