A protest by thousands of people in central London against the

restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic

ended this Saturday with clashes between protesters and the police who tried to disperse it, after verifying that social distance measures were not being followed.

More than 10,000 people participated in

the "We do not consent" demonstration in Trafalgar Square

against the measures of the Boris Johnson Government to combat the new coronavirus.

Photos shared on Twitter show minor clashes when the police intervened.

The officers beat some participants with batons, according to the images.

We want to be clear, this protest is no longer exempt from rules

. We are asking the participants to disperse. Unfortunately, some officers were injured in clashes with the people," the metropolitan police said in a tweet.
