  • Chronicle: Farruquito's baroque wedding

Before programs about gypsy culture like

Gipsy Kings

, with a documentary and slightly comical dye -

even disrespectful for some

-

triumphed on television

, there was an event that brought this ethnic group closer to all Spaniards.

We are talking about the wedding of the bailaor Farruquito, whose 15th anniversary was celebrated this Wednesday.

He himself celebrated it with his wife on his Instagram profile, where he posted a current photo of both of them

toasting with champagne

.

On September 22, 2005, the considered prince of the gypsies said yes, I love his girlfriend since childhood,

Rosario Alcántara

.

A waste of aesthetic baroque exploded before the eyes of everyone who was unaware of the calé nuptial staging.

It was a hot afternoon in Seville, and those images went around the world.

The bride, entering the temple with her brother-in-law Farruco.EFE

A bride lined with white lace, crowned with

zirconia diamonds

and satin gloved to the elbow, came like a meringue through the door of the Church of Christ of the Gypsies while the assistants touched her palms.

Half an hour before and by horse-drawn carriage, the groom had arrived, Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya, in the same vein at 23 years old: a white damask coat of

Italian design

, frills, puñetas, long hair blowing in the wind.

She was on the arm of the godmother, her aunt Pilar Montoya

La faraona

.

Because her mother, Farruca, did not want to take center stage.

She was still mourning her husband, the singer El Moreno, who had died four years earlier.

The guests turned to

satins, glitter, strapless necklines, rhinestones

.

Once the ceremony was finished and tons of peladillas were thrown, they went to a party that lasted three days at Rancho

El Rocío

, owned by the Peralta rejoneadores in Doñana.

Much was written and jokingly about that link to which the entire gypsy aristocracy and part of the paya attended.

The Montoya, the Amaya, the Carrasco.

Antonio Canales, Massiel, Rafael Amargo, Rafael de Paula, Nano de Jerez, Pansequito, Aurora Vargas, Montse Cortés, Parrita ... Even the Duchess of Alba.

The 'juntaora'

The married couple arrived at the farm on the back of a white steed.

With the anecdote that the bride landed face down on the ground by hooking her foot with one of the huge ruffles of her dress.

Neither

meeting

nor test of the handkerchief was

missing

.

There were 600 guests, but the number tripled.

Many gypsies sneaked into the trunk of cars authorized to enter.

"But

there was food for everyone

. It is not true that they raided the kitchen or that they killed a cow to roast it in the garden. It is true that a crowd threw out the waiters to get a canapé, but no one went hungry or thirsty. What what was done was to advance the food of what was going to be served the next day. You saw dishes of sirloin and ham mixed with

stew and stew, "

a person who attended the feast told LOC.

"The limousines would go from the ranch to the town. The gypsies would go to sleep on the ground with their children ... They all sang and danced ... The Peraltas made a wonderful equestrian show ... You breathed art, there was magic in the air. It was beautiful, "says that guest who prefers not to reveal his name.

Farruquito fulfilled his dream; he really wanted to get married.

It had been a very difficult season.

He was awaiting the trial that sentenced him to three years in prison for reckless homicide and omission of the duty to help for the

fatal run over

of the pedestrian Benjamin Olalla on the night of September 30, 2003. Juan Manuel made a youthful mistake that paid for " with interest, "he later stated: he was driving on a Seville street at a higher speed than allowed without having a driver's license or car insurance.

They even falsely accused him of framing his younger brother in order to avoid prison.

On his wedding day, even without a firm conviction, the artist, whose shirt was torn three times, knew that he was going to be locked up and that is why he burned his ships.

Two years later he entered Seville II, where he stayed for 14 months.

In 2009 he was released.

More than a decade of that has passed and the bailaor has managed to regain his prestige worldwide.

He has had three children with Rosario:

Juan El Moreno, who dances almost like his father,

and the twins Manuela and Triana, who learned to say "Arsa" before "Ajo".

Juan is 13 years old and the girls 5.

Farruquito has worked from Chile to Japan, passing through the US, where he made a video clip with Madonna and People magazine selected her face as one of the most beautiful on the planet.

He has recently reopened the Seville flamenco biennial with his show Desde mi ventana.

"Juan is a beautiful person

, an intellectual. A good gypsy but also a modern man. He loves literature and art ... But above all there is his family. He is a patriarch."
