• Justice: The King telephones Lesmes to inform him that he would have liked to be at the Barcelona event

  • Editorial.Why is Felipe VI not in Barcelona today?

The act of handing over dispatches to the new judges, marked by the absence of the King due to a government veto, was scheduled to conclude with the speech of the president of the CGPJ.

However, before Carlos Lesmes closed the ceremony, Council member José Antonio Ballestero got up to address the audience.

"Before concluding the event, I would like to ask you in all moderation, but also with all conviction, to shout with me 'Long live the King'," he said.

The words have been answered with a resounding "viva" by the assistants.

Among them, that of the president of the CGPJ, the only one on the stage who at that time was not wearing a mask.

So yes, Lesmes has been able to close the event.

After joining, he approached the Minister of Justice, Juan Carlos Campo, who was occupying his right on the bench.

The microphone in front of them has picked up the minister's reaction to the long live the King claimed by the vocal.

"Three laps have been passed," Campo is heard saying.

Moments later, the King himself telephoned the president of the CGPJ to ask him to convey his "congratulations" to the new judges and explain that he would have liked to be in the act as every year, according to sources present at the ceremony.

In his previous intervention, Lesmes had shown the Council's regret for the absence of the Monarch, who was not authorized by the government to travel to the headquarters of the Judicial School of Barcelona.

"We do not have the assistance of His Majesty the King. We feel enormous regret for this absence" had been the first words of Lesmes' speech.

The speech of the president of the CGPJ closed the act.

Before formalizing the farewell, the member of Lesmes has been accompanied on the stand by the Minister of Justice, Juan Carlos Campo;

the State Attorney General, Dolores Delgado;

the president of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia, Jesús Barrientos;

and the director of the Judicial School, Jorge Jiménez.
