US State Department positively praised the apology of North Korea's State Council Chairman Kim Jong-un for the murder of an official in the fishing industry.

The State Department responded in the name of the spokesperson that it was a helpful measure to a question about its position.

Meanwhile, the US government said it expresses deep condolences to the friends and family of the murdered Korean officials.

He also added that he fully supports the ally, South Korea, issued a condemnation statement and demanded a complete explanation from North Korea.

The U.S., with only a month or so remaining in the presidential election, and has no time to pay attention to foreign policy, welcomed Chairman Kim's apology, saying that it will help prevent tensions from rising.

Foreign media have noted that the apology of the North Korean leader was extremely unusual.

The Associated Press said it would ease criticism against President Moon Jae-in and antipathy against North Korea in South Korea, thereby lowering tensions in inter-Korean relations.

The New York Times also analyzed that the apology appears to have prevented another serious crisis in inter-Korean relations.
