From our correspondent in the United States,

Six weeks before November 3, the campaign was rocked this week by the death of Supreme Court Dean Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Saturday, Donald Trump is expected to unveil the name of his candidate to succeed him, and the favorite is the ultra-conservative Catholic judge Amy Barrett.

The Democrats are crying scandal, while the Republicans had refused to confirm the choice of Barack Obama at 9 months of the 2016 presidential election to let the people decide.

Except that today, the Republicans have the majority and should be able to tip the Supreme Court on the side of the conservatives by 6 judges against 3. This could threaten the progressive advances of recent years, such as health reform, protection undocumented youth and even the right to abortion.

The week was also marked by a controversial court ruling linked to the death of Breonna Taylor.

On Wednesday, none of the police were charged with "homicide", which angered protesters.

Two police officers were shot and wounded in Louisville on Wednesday and a demonstration on Thursday was marred by looting.

This could play into the hands of Donald Trump's “law and order” rhetoric, especially for the battle of the suburbs.

The American president, for his part, refused to commit to accepting the November 3 results.

This earned him a call to order from his own camp, including Senate Republican boss Mitch McConnell.

Donald Trump should probably be questioned about this on Tuesday, for the first debate against Joe Biden.
