"Not the only ones in the second wave" of Covid-19

The coronavirus is gaining momentum in several European countries, and in particular in Spain.

"We are not the only ones in the second wave", specifies the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs.

And she continues: "We may already be leading the pack, but the difference is that we are better prepared. It does not translate into a hospital crisis and the death rates remain low."

The migration issue, "a European affair"

Spain is also faced with an influx of Algerian migrants on its territory.

"It is not only a matter between Spaniards and Algerians but a European affair", estimates Arancha Gonzalez Laya.

This situation arises in a particular context, when the European Commission presented this week a new migration pact much debated.

"It is a starting point, we are not fully satisfied," said the head of Spanish diplomacy.

"We are a progressive government that wants to meet its international obligations."

Update on the European Union's external sanctions

Before the summit on October 1 and 2, Arancha Gonzalez Laya speaks out on external sanctions: "Spain wants dialogue between Greece and Turkey, and not unilateral acts to delimit territorial waters. We need a negotiated solution. Belarusian, there is a consensus of the Europeans against the Lukashenko regime, with targeted sanctions. A member state (Cyprus) makes a link between the moment of imposing sanctions on Belarus and those against Turkey: but it is a question of date on Belarus and not of principle. "

The minister is also worried about the fate of Gibraltar, in southern Europe, while trade negotiations for Brexit are stalling "because of the British".
