The 2012 Olympic pole vault champion Renaud Lavillenie improved his best mark of the season by jumping to 5.82m on Friday in Doha (Qatar) in a contest won by the Swede Armand Duplantis (also 5.82m).

Renaud Lavillenie, 3rd behind Duplantis and the American world champion Sam Kendricks (5.82 m), thus improved his 5.80 m successful at the French Championships in Albi on September 12.

World record holder Armand Duplantis was eagerly awaited after clearing 6.15m last week in Rome, the best outdoor performance in history ahead of Ukrainian legend Sergei Bubka (6.14m).

But this time he stumbled at 5.92 m twice, then once at 6 m when he was already assured of victory.
