At least two police officers were shot tonight in protests for the exoneration of the three officers involved in the shooting death of young African American

Breonna Taylor

in Louisville, Kentucky.

Louisville Police Acting Chief Robert Schroeder confirmed tonight that

two police officers were shot

just before the city's curfew went into effect, announced today to prevent protests and riots following charges for the death. in March Taylor, who was shot to death in a search of his apartment.

Shortly after this announcement, US President Donald Trump published a tweet in which he offered his prayers for the improvement of the two agents and the help of the federal government to

contain the protests in the city,

which have been replicated in cities around the country.

"I pray for the two agents who were shot tonight in Louisville, Kentuchy.

The federal government is ready to help,"

said Trump, adding that he has spoken with Governor Andy Beshear.

"We are ready to work just as we are required," added the president.

Kentuchy State Attorney General Daniel Cameron today filed only

minor charges against one of the three officers involved

in Taylor's death, who has become a symbol of protests against racism and police brutality as well as George Floyd was after his death in May in Minneapolis (Minnesota).

The prosecution's indictment accuses one of the agents, Brett Hankison, of having shot at an adjoining apartment and in no case for the events that led to the death of the 26-year-old African-American, who was in her bed when

one of the more than thirty bullets fired

by the agents ended his life.

The protests began as soon as the decision of the Prosecutor's Office was known, which does not prosecute the case as a murder or as the result of an inappropriate search, and after it was announced that the only one of the three defendants was released after the

payment of bail $ 15,000

and only charged with negligence.

Protesters took to the streets and set small fires in the city center, one of which hit the county courthouse.

Around 8.30 in the afternoon, shortly before the curfew began,

two police officers were shot

and taken to a hospital where they have been stabilized and are out of danger, although one of the agents required surgery.

According to Schroeder, a suspect was detained and is being questioned.

Several videos on social networks show what could be

the moment of the shooting

against a line of riot police.

The protests for the exculpation of the agents, who justify their actions by the fact that

Taylor's boyfriend responded to the intrusion,

which would have occurred without prior notice, with the firing of a weapon for which he had a license.
