Chronicle: In the ECO car and without odors that goes with Chiclana's poop
Paco Rego
is a veteran journalist and an exceptional reporter.
That he can write about an ALS patient with the tenderness of a brother, relate how the Minister of Science recovers his spacesuit - and becomes a
Trendic Topic
- or about the
"second life" of sewage.
Thus: "This story begins in a toilet ...".
And in this way he tells how the excrement of 80,000 Andalusians is converted into (clean) fuel.
It is entitled: "In the ECO car and without odors that walks with Chiclana's poop", published in
Crónica
, the supplement to EL MUNDO's great reports.
And with this text that tells how this transformation occurs, this
Wednesday won the IV Aqualia Journalism Prize.
Rego has commented that the ecological use of sewage to convert it into biomethane
is a "magical, miraculous" fact.
The jury, in words collected by the EFE agency, has highlighted
the quality, focus and information
of this work, based on the work of the aforementioned Andalusian treatment plant, since it "values the second life of water in large cities through of innovation projects ".
The first second prize went to
La Vanguardia's
journalistic team
,
made up of
Raúl Montilla, Mané Espinosa and Martí Paola,
for their work "Barcelona recovers wells to reduce the use of drinking water".
María Espeso, a
journalist for
Diario de Ávila,
has been awarded the second second prize for the report "The cutting-edge technology of the WWTP allows the 'recycling' of water with a 'total guarantee'".
The jury has recognized two Special Mentions.
One, to work "The lack of water purification has already cost Spain 22 million", by the journalist
Manuel Planelles,
for
El País.
The second Special Mention went to the work "La Laguna de la EDAR de Medina del Campo (Valladolid) has attracted one in five species of birds that live in Spain", by journalist
Eva González,
for
Europa Press.
The recognition of Rego adds another award to the long list of prestigious awards that the
Crónica
team has accumulated
throughout its history.
The Aqualia award distributes
