In a week, the right to compensation for people in certain risk groups who cannot work from home will cease, at the same time the corona pandemic seems to be able to pick up speed again.

Now, however, SVT can tell that the compensation will be extended.

The decision was made at Thursday's government meeting, and means that the support will remain until 31 December 2020. It is based on an agreement between the governing parties, the Center Party and the Liberals.

- The situation in the country is such that we need a continuation of this compensation to protect risk groups, says Minister of Social Insurance Ardalan Shekarabi (S) to SVT.

Expands compensation group

It also clarifies what applies regarding compensation for people with chronic lung disease, and makes an extension of compensation to certain relatives of people in the risk group who receive assistance compensation.

- We are changing the terms and expanding the group for those who can receive compensation in accordance with the National Board of Health and Welfare's updated data, says Ardalan Shekarabi.

The measures that are now being extended are according to information to SVT:

  • Preventive temporary parental benefit for parents with some recently seriously ill children.

  • Sickness benefit for preventive purposes for certain risk groups.

  • Carrier allowance for certain relatives of people in risk groups.

The time limit is extended

The issue of compensation for people in the risk group who cannot work from home was raised in March by the Moderates.

In June, the Riksdag decided on compensation from 1 July to 30 September.

You can apply for it since 24 August.

The compensation is a maximum of SEK 804 per day for 90 days.

That limit is now changed to compensation for a maximum of 180 days, but first the Riksdag must approve the changes.

At present, the government does not expect to extend the compensation further after the turn of the year.
