In his speech at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Lavrov noted that in a number of countries "the temptation to look abroad for those responsible for internal problems has grown."
He stated that there are attempts by individual countries to use the current situation to promote "narrowly selfish interests", to settle scores with geopolitical competitors and objectionable governments.
“Despite everything, the practice of applying unilateral illegitimate sanctions, undermining the authority and prerogatives of the UN Security Council, remains,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Earlier, Lavrov said that the EU is sacrificing its interests to please the United States.
