Jakarta (dpa) - Despite the increasing number of corona cases, Indonesia's holiday island Bali wants to attract tourists again with the help of 4400 influencers.
From October to November they should travel for free on the island and report on their experiences on social media as part of the campaign entitled “We love Bali”, said the local tourism authority.
The corona pandemic has hit Bali's tourism industry hard.
Around 75,000 people working in the sector have been laid off or on leave there.
Since the end of July, visitors from other parts of Indonesia have been able to travel to Bali again.
Plans that would also open up to foreign tourists were put on hold in mid-September after the rise in corona cases.
As of Wednesday (September 23), there were more than 8100 cases of infection on the island, 236 people died with the virus.
In the Southeast Asian country with around 267 million inhabitants, the number of confirmed corona cases rose by around 4,100 to almost 253,000 on Wednesday, according to the World Health Organization, and around 9,900 infected people died.
