The Norwegian Rafto Foundation awarded its Human Rights Award for this year to the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms for its steadfastness in resisting fear in Egypt valiantly.

In a statement, the foundation said that the award was given to the Egyptian Commission for "its courage and courage in resisting the prevailing state of fear in Egypt."

The Norwegian Foundation added that the Commission is in charge of documenting, preparing reports and spreading awareness about grave violations of human rights in Egypt and abroad, as well as providing legal support for victims of human rights violations.

The foundation said that the Commission is working with the aim of providing an unbiased defense of human rights and the victims of disappearance and torture, despite working in very difficult circumstances.

Hours after winning the Norwegian Rafto Prize, the Dutch embassy in Cairo announced that the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms had been nominated for the "Human Rights Tulip" for the year 2020, among 13 candidates worldwide.

The Human Rights Tulip is an annual award granted by the Dutch government to human rights defenders or organizations that promote human rights and support peace.

The award is considered a special task for organizations that pursue creativity and work in innovative ways.

The winner of the award will be announced by the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, on International Human Rights Day, December 10.

It is noteworthy that the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms was established in 2013 after the military coup in Egypt, and includes hundreds of researchers, lawyers and volunteers, and is active in areas including the police, human rights, freedom of opinion and expression, and the right to fair trials.
