United Nations Secretary-General Guterres said at the opening ceremony that serious geo-tensions, climate crisis, global mistrust, the negative effects of digital technology and the new crown pneumonia pandemic are the five major challenges facing mankind.

Mankind should respond to the five major threats by formulating a new type of fair social contract and improving global governance.

Guterres also called for a global ceasefire to stop all "hot" conflicts; at the same time, every effort must be made to avoid a new cold war.

He said that mankind cannot afford a future of global division.

As usual, the United States was ranked second after Brazil.

U.S. President Trump stated in his speech that the United States has made major achievements in fighting the epidemic. Since April, the United States has reduced the death rate of new coronary pneumonia by 85%.

According to media reports, the number of people diagnosed with new coronary pneumonia in the United States that day exceeded 200,000.

Trump also counted his "political achievements" during his tenure, including rebuilding the US economy, combating terrorism, increasing military strength, withdrawing from the Iran nuclear agreement and restoring sanctions on Iran, etc.

Chinese President Xi Jinping pointed out in his speech that in the face of the epidemic, we must strengthen unity and help each other in the same boat.

We must uphold the scientific spirit, give full play to the key leadership role of the World Health Organization, advance international joint prevention and control, resolutely win the battle against the global epidemic, and oppose politicization and stigma.

He also announced a series of measures to support the United Nations in playing a central role in international affairs, including providing another $50 million in support to the United Nations Global Humanitarian Response Plan for the New Coronary Pneumonia epidemic.

Cuban President Diaz-Canel stated that the United States threatens other countries with its own strength and threatens international organizations with funds and other means.

He criticized the US government for ignoring cooperation in fighting the epidemic and withdrawing from the WHO.

Russian President Putin said that in the current challenging environment, all countries must show political will, wisdom, and foresight.

The permanent members of the UN Security Council have been responsible for international peace and security and safeguarding the foundation of international law for 75 years, and they should continue to play a leading role in this regard.

Regarding the epidemic, Putin said that many countries have been selfless and candid to help each other; but at the official national level, there are also phenomena of goodwill and lack of humanity.

Speaking of the development and use of new coronavirus vaccines, he said that Russia is willing to share experience and continue to cooperate with all countries and international organizations.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in emphasized that his confidence in the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the realization of lasting peace has not changed.

He called on the international community to examine the Peninsula issue from an "inclusive and internationally cooperative" perspective.

Moon Jae-in also proposed launching the Northeast Asian Infectious Disease Control and Public Health Cooperation Initiative to involve North Korea.

He hopes that this cooperation mechanism can become the basis for North Korea to communicate with the international community and guarantee its own security.

Iranian President Rouhani criticized the US policy towards Iran, saying that Iran has been taking measures to maintain regional peace and should not be subject to sanctions.

French President Macron said that hegemonism is already damaging multilateralism. The epidemic has exacerbated the problem, and the foundation of the United Nations is under attack.

He said that the EU is working hard to support developing countries and WHO in responding to the epidemic through solidarity and cooperation.

The world cannot regress to a mode of confrontation between the two parties. Europe needs to assume responsibility and provide new ideas and solutions.

When it comes to the Iranian nuclear issue, Macron said that the US’s “extreme pressure” strategy has proved to be ineffective. France, Germany, and the United Kingdom all advocate the complete implementation of the Iran nuclear agreement and will not accept Iran’s violations.

The purpose of the General Debate of the General Assembly is to provide member states with equal opportunities to discuss international issues and express their concerns.

Affected by the epidemic, the general debate of this session of the UN General Assembly adopted the method of recording video speeches for the first time, from September 22 to 26, and September 29.
