The French Alizé Cornet, who remained on a round of 16 at the US Open, failed to overthrow the hierarchy in Strasbourg against Kazakhe Elena Rybakina, seeded N.5, Tuesday in the second round.
The Niçoise lost 6-3, 7-6 on clay less than a week before Roland-Garros.
Rybakina will meet in the quarterfinals the Chinese Shuai Zhang, who eliminated another Frenchwoman, Clara Burel, by the same score.
Elina Svitolina, seeded N.2, had to fight a little harder to get rid of the Polish Magda Linette: the Ukrainian came to two points from losing the first set and, after conceding a double break, had to clear a set ball in the second.
The companion of the French player Gaël Monfils will face the Swiss Jil Teichmann, downplayer of the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, for a place in the semi-finals.
