China News Service, United Nations, September 21 (Reporter Madelin) The United Nations held its 75th anniversary summit at its New York headquarters on the 21st.

President of the 75th UN General Assembly Bozker presided over the meeting, and UN Secretary-General Guterres attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

More than 100 UN member states, politicians of observer states, and representatives of international organizations gave speeches at the meeting through video.

Due to the large number of speakers, the conference is expected to last 12 hours.

Bozker said at the opening ceremony that the United Nations has been committed to coordinating the actions of various countries over the past 75 years, and has achieved various achievements, including the establishment of an international arms control system, global peacekeeping operations, and protection of civilians.

Guterres said that mankind is still facing various severe challenges. Climate change has intensified, poverty rate has risen again, geopolitical tensions, and the new crown pneumonia pandemic has exposed the fragility of the world.

The world needs more efficient multilateralism to meet these challenges.

After the opening ceremony, politicians and representatives of international organizations expressed congratulations on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations in their video speeches, and expressed their views on the response to the epidemic, the strengthening of multilateralism, the improvement of the international rule of law, and the reform of the United Nations.

The United States, as the host country, was scheduled to speak first, but U.S. President Trump did not record a video of his speech. Instead, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, Sheris Shalai, spoke at the United Nations General Assembly Hall.

Shalai said that the Trump administration believes that the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations is an important moment to commemorate the many achievements of this important institution. At the same time, it should summarize the failures and lessons of its work, examine its strengths and weaknesses, and ensure that the United Nations does not forget its original intention.

Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that China will always be a practitioner of multilateralism, actively participate in the reform and construction of the global governance system, resolutely safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core, the international order based on international law, and the United Nations A central role in international affairs.

French President Macron said that the international system is now facing the threat of antagonism and the foundation of the United Nations has been weakened.

He emphasized that all countries must work together to deal with severe challenges such as the epidemic and climate change.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that the epidemic fully demonstrates that when dealing with global challenges, countries must cross national borders and increase understanding and cooperation at all levels.

If the United Nations is to play a role, then every member must unite.

The "Declaration to Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the United Nations" was adopted at the meeting, reviewing and summarizing the original intention, work and results of the establishment of the United Nations, and making commitments on issues such as sustainable development and climate change.

The "Declaration" pointed out that the challenges facing mankind are interrelated and can only be dealt with by reinvigorating multilateralism. The new crown pneumonia pandemic reminds people of this again.

To better rebuild a more equal, more resilient, and more sustainable world, multilateralism is not an option, but a necessity.

This meeting is one of more than ten high-level meetings during the opening of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. Other themes of the meeting covered response to the epidemic, sustainable development, gender equality, national and regional hotspot issues, etc.

The general debate of the UN General Assembly is scheduled to open on the 22nd, and Guterres will report on its work to all member states.
