It is an appointment that the King never misses.

Or was missing.

The act of delivering dispatches to the new class of judges.

An appointment that takes place in Barcelona -except last year, which was held in Madrid- and to where Felipe VI has traveled since he acceded to the throne.

This year he will not attend.

He will not preside over the act.

As reported by the General Council of the Judiciary, the delivery, which is held on Friday, will be presided over by the President of the Supreme Court and the General Council of the Judiciary, Carlos Lesmes.

Except in 2019, when his transfer to Madrid was justified on the 25th anniversary, the act of delivery of offices, presided over by the King and the leadership of the Judiciary, has taken place in Barcelona since 1987 as it is the city where the Judicial School in which the judges of Spain are trained.

As detailed in the communication of the Judicial Power, the act is expected to be attended by the president of the Constitutional Court, Juan José González Rivas;

the Minister of Justice, Juan Carlos Campo;

and the State Attorney General, Dolores Delgado;

in addition to that of the members of the CGPJ;

the president of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia, Jesús María Barrientos, and other judicial authorities.

But not from the King.

The exclusion of Felipe VI from this ceremony has not been a last minute decision, proof of this is that in the weekly forecasts that Zarzuela handles, this act was not on the agenda.

It was never included in the schedule of forecasts of official acts, according to the sources consulted by this newspaper.

A striking fact, since the assistance of the King of Spain has been the usual norm.
