But it is an airport that has not had passenger traffic for about six months and no one knows if and when an airline can start up again.

- We do not know where the pandemic ends.

We do not expect to start regular traffic this year, says Mikael Lundström.

At the same time as scheduled traffic is down, all charter departures from Karlstad are also canceled.

Region Värmland can now become a partner in Karlstad Airport and pay part of the cost of the airport.

According to the proposal, which the regional board will now take a position on, Region Värmland will bear half of the costs for the airport, however, a maximum of SEK 20 million per year.

Minus result last year

The airport is today a major cost for Karlstad municipality.

In 2019, when the flights were still running, the municipal company showed a negative result after net financial items of SEK 34.6 million.

- It is well-invested money, according to Mikael Lundström who points out that not everything is standing still at the airport.

- I think everyone, including those who are opposed to the airport, are happy that there are ambulance flights, firefighting flights and socially important flight connections.

He says that some larger companies also have own flights to and from Karlstad.

The Green Party and the Left Party have previously expressed that they are critical of the initiative.
