Prime Minister Suga had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and confirmed that she would continue to work closely with the international community to address issues such as measures against the new corona virus.

Following the appointment of Prime Minister Suga, the telephone talks were held for about 20 minutes from 5 pm at the request of the Japanese side.



In this, Prime Minister Suga expressed his gratitude for Merkel's cooperation with Japan so far, and stated that he would like to further strengthen the relationship between Japan and Germany.



In response, Chancellor Angela Merkel responded, "We look forward to working with Prime Minister Suga to develop relations between the two countries."



On that basis, the two leaders confirmed that they will continue to work closely together to address the challenges of the international community, including measures against the new coronavirus, and to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific.



After that, Prime Minister Suga also talked with President Michelle of the EU = European Union over the phone, pointing out that the EPA = Economic Partnership Agreement between Japan and the EU has strengthened the relationship between the two, free trade and climate change. We agreed to deepen the discussion for cooperation in a wide range of fields such as digital transformation.
