It is already known that the Nobel Banquet has been canceled, and now the Nobel Foundation has put its foot down regarding the award ceremony as well.

The cause is, of course, the corona pandemic.

It will instead be a televised award ceremony where the presentations of the awards are interspersed with elements from the award winners' home countries when they receive medals and diplomas there.

The broadcast will probably take place from City Hall in Stockholm.

- We tie everything together in a joint broadcast, with a studio in City Hall.

Each prize winner can be at the Swedish embassy or at their university, says the Nobel Foundation's CEO Lars Heikensten.

It has not been decided who will lead the TV broadcast.

Lars Heikensten says that it was easy to make a decision to give up the big banquet.

- And already this spring, we were completely set on not holding a traditional award ceremony.

But we wanted to wait over the summer and see what happened before we communicated it.

We did not want to commit to a decision too early, says Lars Heikensten.
